Leitch Technology Corp. has unveiled a new server capable of pumping out high-definition content.

The company's "NEXIO HD" server, based on a 64-bit dual processor platform and software-based codecs, allows the integration of baseband HD record and playback. The server also provides two channels of HD output, or one channel of input (for encoding) and one for HD output in either 720p or 1080i format. The product, which can also store standard-definition content, will initially support MPEG-2.

"This is going to change the way that broadcasters build facilities," claimed Tim Thorsteinson, Leitch's president and CEO. "Agile codec technology will make changing system compression formats effortless."
