Kasenna Inc. has launched TimelessTV, a network-based digital video recording platform based on its line of MediaBase servers and Linux-based software.
The company's new platform also incorporates vForge, a video-on-demand software architecture system Kasenna launched in April that is built on published APIs. vForge, the company explained then, enables service providers to build their own middleware and create their own interactive applications.
Of course, Kasenna is just one in a string of VOD server and software vendors that have built nPVR platforms. Cable's three largest VOD equipment suppliers — SeaChange International, nCUBE Corp. and Concurrent Computer Corp. — also lay claims on nPVR technology. One difference, however, is that Kasenna, after its acquisition of ViewNow earlier this year, also aggregates on-demand content.
Kasenna, which has made some recent inroads in the domestic cable industry with MSOs such as Charter Communications, has made the most hay in the IP telco VOD sectors.
