MetroCast Cablevision is the latest MSO to jump on the video-on-demand bandwagon, firing up the service across its New Hampshire and Maine systems.
MetroCast is using a centralized architecture, placing MediaCluster video servers from SeaChange International Inc. at a central hub and then distributing content via Gigabit Ethernet to edge hubs. There, BigBand Networks Inc. 's high-density BME50 broadband multimedia service edge unit converts the Internet Protocol connections and provides the Gigabit Ethernet networking, quadrature amplitude modulation and radio frequency upconversion elements.
"MetroCast Cablevision's deployment of BigBand VOD Edge on the BME50 underscores the operator's commitment to delivering the most advanced services to its subscribers," said Richard Peske, BigBand Networks' vice president of product marketing for video solutions. "This platform seamlessly expands as offerings are scaled up, network architectures advance, and additional services are provided to MetroCast Cablevision subscribers."
