Competitive telecom provider Covad Communications Group Inc. is the latest to jump into the VoIP game, with plans to roll out a business-class service to 100 markets by the end of the year.

Based on equipment from Cisco Systems Inc., the VoIP service is offered in two flavors, vPBX and PBXi. Both offer business customers a turnkey VoIP system, including Cisco 3662/5350 Gateways, Cisco 7600 Series Routers and Cisco Catalyst 3550 switches.

"Managed network services are the foundation for delivering business solutions that will provide our customers with the end-to-end performance and reliability that they require over an IP network," said Bill Jarvis, Covad's senior vice president of voice, in a release. "By deploying Cisco's market-leading technology, we will be able to roll out our new VoIP services to over 100 markets by the end of year."
