Swisscom subsidiary Bluewin is offering IPTV services over DSL lines to about 600 homes via the Microsoft TV software platform.
Initially, Bluewin will use the software platform to deliver 25 TV channels over IP. The service includes five pay-TV channels, video-on-demand capabilities and an integrated digital video recorder (DVR) application. Bluewin is deploying IP set-tops made by Thomson.
Bluewin expects to conduct the trial for four months, and has slated a commercial launch for 2005. The company estimates that 700,000 customers in Switzerland already use ADSL technology.
SBC, Bell Canada and India-based Reliance Infocomm are among broadband operators to agree to trial Microsoft's IPTV system.
