WorldGate Communications said technology and marketing partner Motorola Broadband has placed an initial $5 million order for WorldGate's Ojo videophone.
WorldGate did not disclose how many units the order was for, though the device is expected to retail for about $500 or $600. Motorola, however, will certainly pay less than the retail price. WorldGate plans to begin shipping the units this fall.
In May, Motorola signed on as the exclusive distributor of the Ojo videophone.
"Motorola's distribution support will help WorldGate to bring the product to market and to make video telephony a worldwide reality," said WorldGate Chairman & CEO Hal Krisbergh, in a release.
