Cisco shuffles tech deck, names CTO
Cisco Systems Corp. has named Charles Giancarlo to chief technology officer as part of a larger reorganization of the company's technology leadership.
In addition to his role as CTO, Giancarlo will head up Cisco's Global Government Solutions Group, and continue to serve as president of Cisco-Linksys LLC
In other moves:
Cisco named Senior Vice President Jayshree Ullal to lead the company's new Security Technology Group;
SVP Luca Cafiero will head up Cisco's recently formed Data Center, Storage, Switching and Wireless Technology Group;
VP and GM Tony Bates will now lead the Carrier Core Multiservice Business Unit;
VP and GM Kathy Hill will now oversee Cisco's new Mid-range and Stackable Switching Technology Group;
VP and GM Kambiz Hooshmand will head up Cisco's Optical and Broadband Transport Technology Group.
Ullal, Cafiero, Hill and Hooshmand will report to Mario Mazzola, Cisco's senior vice president and chief development officer. Bates will report to Prem Jain and Mike Volpi, both SVPs of the vendor's Routing Technology Group.
Cisco said the moves were made to address customer needs, capture new market opportunities and to cultivate its current and next generation of leaders.
