Steve Burke has been named chief operating officer of Comcast Corp. as part of a broad reorganization of top execs at the Philadelphia-based company.

Burke, who will remain president of Comcast Cable, was recognized for his integration of AT&T Broadband over the past 18 months.

"Steve is one of the outstanding leaders of the cable industry and has effectively been performing the functions of COO of Comcast for some time," said Comcast Chairman & CEO Brian Roberts, in a prepared statement.

Burke will also head up Comcast's content assets, which previously reported to Roberts. The E! and Style networks will report to Burke, while The Golf Channel, Outdoor Life Network, G4TechTV and new content business development will report to Amy Banse.

In the wake of Burke's expanded role, Comcast also embarked on a major reorganization of its cable division, elevating Dave Watson to executive vice president, operations, and naming Mike Tallent to EVP, finance and administration.

The move will enable Watson and Tallent "to assume greater responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Comcast Cable," the MSO said. Under the new structure, Comcast's five field division presidents, high-speed Internet and telephone businesses, Comcast Spotlight, and sales and marketing will report to Watson. The company's finance and accounting, administration, information technology, programming administration, engineering operations, customer service and Comcast SportsNet will report to Tallent.

Dave Fellows, Comcast's CTO, and Steve Silva, the MSO's executive vice president of new business development, will continue to report to Burke.
