Allen firm, Comcast invest in Arcwave
Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures and Comcast Interactive Capital participated in an $8 million round of financing for Arcwave, a start-up that makes gear designed to extend high-speed DOCSIS channels wirelessly to small- and medium-sized businesses.
The latest infusion, led by Vulcan, extends Arcwave's total funding beyond $28 million. In connection, Vulcan Capital Director Brian Vincent will join the Arcwave board. Louis Toth, managing director of Comcast Interactive Capital, will serve as a board "observer."
Arcwave's current product generation ARCXtend platform leverages DOCSIS, though future products are expected to incorporate Wi-Fi and emerging WiMAX technologies.
"Arcwave has provided a cost-effective solution that immediately enables cable operators to serve enterprise data customers that were previously out of reach due to cost, complexity, geographic and regulatory obstacles," said Toth, in a statement.
