Jungo Software Technologies will provide a boost to SMC Network's EZ Connect wireless cable modem router under an integration deal announced by the two companies Wednesday.

Jungo's Linux-based OpenRG software adds communications and routing protocols, stateful packet inspection firewall security, wireless local area networking security, virtual private networking capabilities, Universal Plug and Play interfaces, Web-based management, optional VxWorks software, remote upgrade capabilities, support for CableHome specifications and support for myriad home networking applications.

Adding that software bundle to the SMC 8013WG will add to the device's marketability, according to Daniel McRaney, SMC's broadband division product manager. The gateway device, which sports an integrated 4-port switch and 802.11g wireless access connections, recently won CableHome 1.1 certification from CableLabs.

"Jungo's OpenRG CableHome 1.1-based software and global support has allowed us to bring to market a highly innovative product in a short time frame," McRaney said, in a release. "By incorporating Jungo's software, SMC can now offer a CableHome 1.1 certified cable modem with enhanced features such as SPI Firewall protection, VPN support, remote management, and remote upgrade capabilities."
