Motorola Broadband has introduced a DOCSIS 2.0-based module for the Broadband Services Router (BSR) 64000, the vendor's flagship cable modem termination system (CMTS).
Cable operators can insert the Advanced Spectrum Management CMTS Module into existing BSR 64000s as part of a plan to upgrade to the upstream-dilating DOCSIS 2.0 platform while also boosting the performance of their existing DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 cable modems, Motorola said.
The module occupies a single slot of the CMTS, and offers eight upstream and two downstream ports. The device also sports an extra (ninth) receiver for RF spectrum monitoring and analysis. The added component is designed to monitor upstream ports without impacting throughput, Motorola noted.
