HBC crosses 'CableBridge' to premium services
Cable-provider Hiawatha Broadband Communications Inc. (HBC) is enlisting the help of ETI Software Solutions Inc.'s CableBridge to bring premium video services to its customers.
According to ETI, CableBridge connects an operator's existing billing system with the addressable controllers that provide access to broadband services. Information about subscribers and the services they are authorized to receive can be maintained through a high-level command interface with the host billing system or through a workstation on the operator's network.
Subscribers can then purchase services such as video-on-demand (VOD) and pay-per-view (PPV) through their remote controls with CableBridge managing the transactions - collecting purchases via the remote and making the purchases available to the host billing system for bill rendering and collection.
HBC is using the system to provision set-top boxes for PPV and digital cable, and also for the unified billing function.
"Not only does ETI's CableBridge address our immediate needs, but it also positions us strategically for the future as we roll out new services, which will require new interfaces, to our expanding subscriber base," said Bob Bartz, HBC's vice president of finance, in a release.
HBC, based in Winona, Minn., provides high-speed Internet, telephone and cable service to about 9,500 customers.
