Broadcom on hook for $22.5 M Microtune payment

Although Microtune Inc. and Broadcom Corp. expressed "satisfaction" Monday when the two silicon tuner rivals announced an agreement to settle all outstanding patent and antitrust litigation, it appears Broadcom came out on the short end of the financial stick.
According to an 8-K form Microtune filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 13, Broadcom is on the hook for a one-time payment to Microtune of $22.5 million.
Under terms of the original settlement, the two companies have also agreed to a separate patent cross-license deal. All of those licenses are royalty-free, save for Broadcom's license for Microtune's dual conversion tuner products.
