Bright House Networks will tap Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.'s new edge dense wavelength division multiplexing technology to unify voice, video and data traffic in its Tampa Bay and Central Florida system.

The Flashwave 7500 metro DWDM will give Bright House a converged transport network for video-on-demand, HDTV, broadcast video, digital telephony and high-speed data. Bright House has designed the new network to funnel traditional cable services and VOD plus wide area network and local-area network data protocols running at a maximum 10 Gigabits per second per wavelength.

Bright House also will use a companion Netsmart 1500 Element Management System to direct local and remote provisioning.

"The Flashwave 7500 platform, which we regard as being in the premier class of DWDM systems with its optical switch fabric, will help us accelerate the deployment of broadband and VOD services to more users and expand our reach throughout our major markets, at a lower operational cost," said Jeff Chen, vice president of advanced engineering at Bright House parent Advance/Newhouse, in a release.
