Time Warner Cable has initiated a field trial of the Explorer 8300 MR-DVR, Scientific-Atlanta 's newly launched set-top with baked in multi-room digital video recording capabilities. The MSO has not yet disclosed the trial location.

S-A's new platform enables customers to view digitally recorded content on up to three additional TV sets in their homes via existing in-home wiring and legacy, non-DVR Explorer set-tops.

The new platform "enables us to offer a very compelling offering that consumers want and that satellite can't easily match," said Michael Harney, S-A's corporate senior vice president and president of the company's subscriber networks division. "DVR has redefined the television experience, Multi-Room DVR will redefine DVR."
