Terayon Communication Systems Inc. has picked up a new distribution channel for its CherryPicker digital stream management system, inking a deal with video compression and television delivery systems provider Tandberg Television to integrate and sell the product.

Under the deal, Tandberg will integrate and resell the CherryPicker and other Terayon digital video offerings. Adding the Terayon gear, which also includes digital video receivers and decoders, to Tandberg's lineup will extend its appeal to service providers looking to go all-digital, according to Warren Hobson, director of corporate strategy at Tandberg Television.

Based in Norway, Tandberg has built up a worldwide client base in video and on-demand content delivery among cable, fiber, Internet Protocol and satellite service providers.

"Our aim is to provide our customers with complete end-to-end systems that give them a business model solution, not just a technology infrastructure," he said. "We are well known for our systems integration, which sees us integrate best-in-class third-party products to deliver the right solution for specific applications and are delighted to be able to include Terayon's CherryPicker within our portfolio."

The CherryPicker line of stream management chassis provides stat muxing, rate shaping and ad splicing functions, allowing cable operators to squeeze multiple digital signals onto a single Quadrature Amplitude Modulation stream. The latest in the line, the DM 6400, extends that capability to include HD signals.
