Level 3 unveils turnkey VoIP service product

Level 3 Communications Inc. has jumped into the cable VoIP game, rolling out a connectivity platform providers can use to roll out telephony services.

The (3)VoIP Enhanced service offers communications companies a way to set up residential VoIP service, supplying local phone numbers, interconnection with the Public Switched Telephone Network, local number portability and E911 emergency services.

The service is now available in more than 50 U.S. markets passing more than 16 million homes, with plans to widen availability to more than 300 markets and 63 million homes passed by the end of the year.

"(3)VoIP Enhanced Local service provides cable operators, enhanced service providers, and others the essential building blocks needed to cost-effectively accelerate their deployment of VoIP service to millions of consumers throughout the U.S," said Sureel Choksi, Level 3's president of softswitch service, in a release.
