Canadian MSO Shaw Communications, the latest to latch on to the "Xtreme" moniker, has launched a data tier that provides up to 5 Mbps in the downstream and as much as 1 Mbps up.

The turbo-charged tier, dubbed Shaw High-Speed Xtreme-I, carries a $10 per month premium over the MSO's flagship, 3 Mbps cable modem service.

Shaw is offering the new tier in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Calgary, and expects Edmonton to come online in "the coming months."

The Xtreme tier also features up to seven e-mail addresses, two IP addresses, and 10 megabytes of Web space.
