Silicon startup Entropic Communications has named Michael Economy to the post of vice president of worldwide sales.

Economy previously was vice president of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) sales for Trident Microsystems, a graphics chip supplier. He has also held senior marketing and engineering posts at Synergy Semiconductor and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

The hiring of an OEM specialist and a silicon vet provides a glimpse into how Entropic expects to approach the whole-home entertainment network sector.

Entropic is a founding member of the Multimedia Over Coax Alliance (MoCA), a group that aims to use the untapped bandwidth of in-home coax to ship high-quality video and other digital content to various CE devices ranging from TVs and set-tops to digital video recorders. Comcast Cable and EchoStar Communications are also among the group's founding members.

Entropic recently introduced the c.LINK-270, a chipset designed to turn cable wiring into a high-speed home network.
