CableLabs promotes Reed, reshuffles PacketCable

CableLabs has promoted Dr. David Reed to executive vice president and chief strategy officer and made some far-reaching changes to other high-profile elements of the organization.

Reed, who reports to CableLabs President and CEO Dr. Richard Green, will also head up the organization's strategic assessment department.

CableLabs also announced the reorganization of its PacketCable department, renaming it Advanced Network Systems (ANS). CableLabs said the change reflected the expanding scope of the initiative.

Tied to that, CableLabs promoted Ed Miller to vice president, ANS, where he will lead the overall effort. Miller returned to CableLabs as chief network architect last fall after a stint as vice president of voice solutions at Terayon Communication Systems.

Glenn Russell, who most recently directed PacketCable efforts and led it through initial product certifications and qualifications, has been named director, multimedia applications. Russell initially will focus on the PacketCable Multimedia project.

In other reorg news, Go2Broadband will leave the strategic assessment group. Jenifer Cistola, vice president of the MSO-based messaging service, now reports to CableLabs COO Chris Lammers.
