Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America has inked a multi-year licensing deal that will place Gemstar-TV Guide International 's interactive program guide in digital TVs and digital recorders tagged for North America.

Gemstar-TV guide has a separate IPG agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Corp. for products set for release in Japan and Europe. Under the deals, Mitsubishi will pay undisclosed license fees to Gemstar based on the number of units sold that integrate Gemstar's IPG technology.

Gemstar said the agreement will help consumers navigate the swelling amount of digital programming available to them.

"With its subscription-free service, TV Guide On Screen helps consumers quickly and easily sort, select and schedule television programming for viewing and recording, helping them get the full potential out of their TVs and digital recorders," said Doug Macrae, president, TV Guide Consumer Electronics.

Gemstar-TV Guide has forged similar agreements with JVC, LG (Zenith), Matsushita (Panasonic), Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and Thomson.
