Arris to integrate, resell Nuera VoIP gear
Arris has inked a deal to integrate and resell Nuera Communications' line of VoIP media gateways.
Arris said it will offer the equipment as part of its overall VoIP equipment package for cable operators that own or have access to traditional Class 5 switches but want to offer IP-based voice services in the access network.
That method is defined by the CableLabs PacketCable Line Control Signaling (LCS) network architecture. An all-IP cable voice offering, complete with network elements such as the call management server and multimedia terminal adapter, is defined by the PacketCable Network-based Call Signaling (NCS) architecture. The LCS approach also enables operators to migrate to an NCS-based PacketCable network.
As part of its LCS package, Arris is matching its Cadant C4 cable modem termination system and Touchstone Telephony modems with Nuera's ORCA RDT-8 media gateway and the Alopa Networks Metaserv provisioning system.
The agreement "will help cable operators quickly and cost effectively launch or expand their telephony service offerings with a proven VoIP solution," said Nuera CFO Mike Rinehart, in a release.
The deal with Arris will also give Nuera's products a stronger sales channel into the cable sector.
