Arris has launched a new embedded multimedia terminal adapter (eMTA) that houses Lithium-Ion batteries with enough juice to provide up to 20 hours of backup power.

Arris noted that lightweight Lithium-Ion batteries are easier to replace and have a longer service life than traditional sealed lead acid batteries.

Based on DOCSIS 2.0 and PacketCable 1.1 specifications, the Touchstone Telephony Modem 402 provides a conduit for high-speed data and two lines of IP telephony.

Arris will make the Touchstone TM 402P available in April, though a number of MSOs are presently evaluating early production versions.
