Arris said Japan's largest MSO, Jupiter Telecommunications Co. Ltd. (J-COM Broadband) has deployed an undisclosed number of the vendor's Cadant C4 cable modem termination systems (CMTSs).

Arris did not say how many C4s the operator deployed or provide financial terms of the deal, but J-COM's networks pass about 6 million serviceable homes. An Arris spokesman said the agreement makes J-COM one of its top five CMTS customers. J-COM has also purchased cable telephony equipment from Arris for several years.

"As one of the CMTS vendors we deploy, we selected the ARRIS Cadant C4 to support the very high data rates we are offering, as well as for the ease of their upgrade to high density DOCSIS 2.0 operations," said J-COM Broadband's Senior Vice President of Engineering Shunzo Yamaguchi, in a release.

Taking a multi-vendor strategy, J-COM earlier this year announced it is also deploying CMTSs and cable modems from Terayon Communication Systems.
