Level 3 goes toll free with VoIP
Level 3 Communications has launched a new voice service that allows customers to activate lower cost Voice-over-IP toll-free calling across the U.S. and Canada.
The service, dubbed (3)VoIP Toll Free, reduces communications costs for businesses that require a reliable, toll-free, nationwide calling infrastructure, the company said. The new service also complement's Level 3's (3)VoIP Marketplace local calling service, which was launched in September 2003. Level 3 launched an international voice termination platform on Monday.
Level 3's Toll Free and Marketplace services target sectors such as conferencing service providers and call center operators. Raindance Communications, a provider of Web and audio conferencing services, is among the initial customers of Level 3's toll-free service, which provides coverage for the continental U.S., Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Canada.
"We now have a compelling combination of local and toll-free nationwide VoIP calling solution that give customers the control they need to create new products and services," said Sureel Choksi, executive vice president of Level 3's softswitch services unit.
