WildBlue Communications has tapped Raven Manufacturing Ltd. to design and produce outdoor satellite receiver equipment for Wildblue's forthcoming Ka-band-based satellite broadband service. WildBlue expects to launch services in the second half of 2004.

Under the deal, Raven will produce, test and ship all components to the U.S., where the company will then handle final assembly, packaging, storage and delivery to WildBlue.

U.K.-based Raven said it will be using a WildBlue-patented antenna design that operates at both Ka and Ku bands, and expects to deliver the first units to WildBlue early next year.

Raven's U.S. facility is based in Chicago. Among other design/manufacturing wins, the company supplies receive-only antennas to BSkyB.
