Spanish-speaking workers from Comcast Cable and Cox Communications today will become the first to take a Spanish-language version of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Broadband Premises Specialist (BPS) Certification exam.

Offered as part of the Society's Operación Español initiative, the exam is being conducted at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz.

BPS certification tests cable installers' and techs' knowledge of elements such as installation, troubleshooting, safety and customer service.

"Information gathered on bilingualism shows that Spanish-speaking individuals may be conversational in English, but they often study and test better in Spanish," said SCTE President and CEO John Clark, in a statement.
