Motorola, Movaz team on broadband transport

Sun, 11/30/2003 - 7:00pm

Motorola Broadband will market and resell optical transport gear from Movaz Networks to its global customers. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Under the deal, Motorola Broadband will incorporate Movaz's RAY-branded dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) gear into its existing Multi-service Wavelength Transport (MWT) family of products, which includes a number of optical add/drop multiplexer configurations capable of scaling from 1 to 40 wavelengths.

The companies have also agreed to collaborate on the expansion of Motorola's MWT portfolio and on platforms that marry IP-based voice, video and data services.

The agreement will give Movaz access to Motorola Broadband's relationships with cable operators.

The combined platform "enables operators to efficiently utilize their network capacity for the integrated transport of multiple services and scale their system to meet growing bandwidth demands," said Charles Dougherty, vice president and general manager of Motorola's network infrastructure solutions business.
