Kabel Baden-Württemberg, Germany's third-largest cable MSO, said it will design and deploy a broadband video network based on BigBand Networks' flagship Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR).

Kabel Baden-Württemberg, which provides services to 2.2 million subs, will use the gear to boost its digital programming menu. The deployment will use the BMR to groom digital content, which is distributed to multiple regional headends via a GigE backbone. The platform will also help the MSO offer new services, including video-on-demand, the companies said.

The collaboration with BigBand "assures optimal network design and component selection, and we continue working closely together through deployment and scaling of services," said MSO Chief Technical Officer Uwe Baerman, in a release.
