The "whole-home" entertainment center isn't just about the multi-room digital video recorder (DVR) anymore.

Ucentric Systems has added music to the mix with a new software application for set-top boxes and other consumer electronic devices.

The product, Ucentric Whole Home Media 1.0, provides an interface that enables consumers to play digital music on any device hooked into the home entertainment network, including TVs, PCs, personal digital assistants and cell phones.

Ucentric's new software also enables users to "rip" their CDs, and, through a partnership with Gracenote, tap CD metadata to create personalize play list from their stored music files.

"We see this music solution as a valuable complement to our Digital Home Software Suite," said Ucentric CEO Michael Collette, in a release. "For customers that are implementing our Multi-TV DVR solution, Whole Home Music 1.0 adds significant new value to consumers without an increase in hardware cost."
