RCN gives dial-up a booster shot
A week after raising the download cap of its high-end cable modem service tier to 5 Mbps, overbuilder RCN Corp. made it clear that it won't leave its dial-up subs in the lurch.
Instead, RCN turned on a new "Dial-Up Accelerator" service that's designed to speed up Web surfing and e-mail retrieval by up to five times faster than traditional dial-up speeds. RCN is offering the enhancement to customers for no additional charge.
