RCN goes HD in Philly

RCN Corp. has launched high-definition television service to customers in Philadelphia with a 10-channel package. The overbuilder has already launched HD in Boston; Manhattan; Washington, D.C.; Lehigh Valley, Pa.; and the Queens, N.Y. markets.

RCN's HD lineup in Philadelphia includes programming from broadcasters ABC, NBC, PBS and Fox (hi-res, widscreen). RCN also offers HD feeds from ESPN, HDNet, HDNet Movies, Discovery and premium nets HBO and Showtime.

In comparison, the city's incumbent cable operator, Comcast Corp., offers an HD lineup consisting of ABC, NBC, PBS, HBO, FoxShowtime, Comcast SportsNet, ESPN, and two new linear channels from InDemand: INHD and INHD2.
