SureWest profits in Q2
SureWest Communications posted revenue of $50.3 million, up 16 percent, and a profit of $2.7 million (19 percent) per share, up from $1.7 million a year ago, thanks in part to strong results from its broadband services segment.
That division, which includes Internet, business and residential services, saw revenues climb by $5.1 million year-over-year. SureWest added 1,152 DSL subs in the quarter, giving it 17,995, while "triple-play" voice, data and video revenues rose to $2.3 million, compared to $1.9 million a year ago.
SureWest, which acquired the assets of bankrupt overbuilder Winfirst in 2002 for $12 million, ended the quarter with 59,000 triple-play homes passed and 7,516 triple-play subs, up 17.2 percent year-over-year.
