Efforts behind the Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) standard took another step toward final approval after the IEEE 802.17 Working Group approved the latest working ballot, the RPR Alliance said.

The group approved draft 2.3 of the standard, and will now pore over comments made against the draft before moving to and considering draft 2.4. Pending acceptance, the standard will then move to sponsor ballot for approval.

"The pace of RPR product development will only increase as we get close to the completion of the IEEE standard and move to interoperability testing," said Martin Green, vice president of marketing for the RPR Alliance and product manager for Cisco Systems.
