Mexico-based MSO Megacable said it plans to launch a slate of interactive television services in the third quarter to customers in Guadalajara using software from Microsoft Corp., set-tops built by Motorola Broadband and content from Digital Latin America.

Megacable, which serves about 450,000 cable customers, said Motorola's DCT-5000 series boxes will be deployed with Microsoft TV's interactive program guide and "TV Advanced" software, which will support applications such as e-mail, Web browsing and instant messaging. Megacable will also offer the Microsoft IPG on its deployed base of thin-client DCT-1000 set-tops.

Megacable expects to complement that iTV slate with video-on-demand services sometime next year.
