Linksys has launched a new wireless media adapter that enables consumers to retrieve digital music and photos stored on their PCs and hear or view them on their home stereos and TVs.

The Wireless-B Media Adapter (WMA11B) "bridges the analog and digital worlds" via 802.11b-based home networks and shares content with traditional TVs and stereos via standard A/V or S-Video cables.

Regarding audio, users can select music through a TV menu screen and remote control. Linksys said it's working to offer playlist support from music services such as Listen.com's Rhapsody and MusicMatch.

On the video side, consumers can view digital photos either one at a time or through a slideshow. The platform supports multiple digital image formats (.jpg, .gif, .tif and .bmp).

The new device carries an estimated street price of $199.
