Cox Communications Inc. high-speed Internet customers will soon be able to benefit from anti-virus, anti-spam and other software from McAfee Security for Consumers, a business unit of Network Associates Inc.

McAfee VirusScan Online, McAfee Personal Firewall Plus, McAfee SpamKiller and McAfee Privacy Service will be available as optional features with Cox's Internet service. The initial market launch of these products is slated for the second quarter of 2003.

"With high speed Internet access in the home, it is important to provide consumers with strong and easy-to-use solutions to safeguard their valuable information," said Todd Gebhart, vice president, managed services and OEM, Network Associates.

McAfee VirusScan Online protects against more than 63,000 known viruses and 300 new ones discovered each month. The product automatically checks for virus updates and software upgrades.

McAfee Personal Firewall Plus blocks online thieves, and allows tracing of hacker attacks, helping to prevent future threats and assisting authorities (including ISPs and law enforcement) to track criminals.

McAfee Privacy Service ensures that customers do not expose confidential information to online threats while protecting family members, including children, from inappropriate online content. Among the many features of the product are age-based access levels, giving parents control over what their kids see and do on the Internet.

McAfee SpamKiller helps customers to stop spam from polluting their inboxes with advanced rule-based filtering.

In addition, customers who choose to add the McAfee products to their Cox Internet service will receive the McAfee Security Center, a set of security tools to alert and inform users in real-time about Internet threats, quickly determine their vulnerability to those threats, and provide access to security information through the McAfee Virus Information Library and World Virus Map.
