Linksys ships A+G networking gear
Linksys said it has started shipping what it calls the industry's first wireless A+G product, the WPC55AG PC card for laptop computers. It carries a unit price of $99.
The new card supports both 802.11a and 802.11g wireless protocols. Both platforms support theoretical throughputs as high as 54 Mbps, but the "a" version lives in the 5.0 GHz spectrum, and the "g" flavor resides in 2.4 GHz and interoperates with legacy gear based on 11 Mbps 802.11b equipment. 802.11g, still in draft form, has not yet been approved as an IEEE standard.
Linksys said it will introduce a wireless A+G router, access point and PCI adapter for desktops later this month.
