Canadian MSO Shaw Cablesystems launched video-on-demand services in Vancouver, British Columbia last week, offering content on-demand to customers who have both a Shaw Internet high-speed connection and a subscription to the MSO's digital cable service.

The VOD launch marks the second for Shaw, which also offers the service to digital subs in Calgary, Alberta. In both cases, Shaw is using nCUBE Corp.'s n4x video servers, which are designed to support communities as small as 5,000 to as large as 500,000 households, the company said.

Other North American cable MSO that have deployed nCUBE's VOD gear include Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable, and overbuilders Altrio, Astound Broadband and SureWest Communications.
