Mediacom grooms digital with BigBand
Mediacom Communications Corp. said it is deploying BigBand Networks Inc. 's Broadband Multimedia-Service-Router (BMR) for digital broadcast services in two states.
Specifically, Mediacom, which serves about 1.6 million basic cable subs, is using the gear and BigBand's grooming application to gain more control of its digital programming line-ups in eight sites in Georgia and Illinois.
"BigBand Grooming gives us centralized and decentralized control over programming at each site, so that we can maximize our bandwidth efficiency and expand offerings to our subscribers," Mediacom Senior Vice President of Technology Joseph Van Loan said, in a press release.
BigBand's applications for the BMR also touch video-on-demand, high-definition television and digital ad insertion.
Mediacom marks the latest MSO to announce a deployment with BigBand. Cox Communications, Comcast Corp. (through an earlier deal with AT&T Broadband), Rogers Cable, Blue Ridge Communications and Tim Warner Cable also have deployment relationships with BigBand.
