The Euro-DOCSIS Certification Board has certified its second DOCSIS 1.1 cable modem and has qualified three CMTSs.

Arris's Touchtone Telephony voice-enabled cable modem became the second cable modem to receive Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 certification, during the board's latest certification wave. Texas Instruments Inc. supplied the silicon for the cable modem.

Last month, Toshiba Corp.'s PCX2500 became the first cable modem to receive Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 certification. Texas Instruments also supplied the silicon and software for that modem, making it the only vendor to provide Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 certified products.

Also during wave 8, the board qualified Arris' Cornerstone CMTS 1500 and two Cisco CMTSs, the uBR10012 and the uBR 7246-VXR.

Juniper and Scientific-Atlanta's CMTS was close to compliance with the Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 spec, "Invited Resubmission" status has been granted to the Juniper G10 CMTS and S-A Prisma CMTS.

The Euro-DOCSIS Certification Board consists of representatives of European cable operators Casema, NetCologne, NTL, Telenet, Telewest, UPC and its newest member Essent.

Several vendors have received DOCSIS 1.1 certification and are selling DOCSIS 1.1-certified modems or reference designs in the United States, including 3Com, Aastra, Accton, Ambit, Arris, Askey, Com21, Conexant, Correlant, Joohong, Motorola Broadband (three models), Quanta Network Systems, Samsung, Scientific-Atlanta, Tellabs, Terayon, Texas Instruments, Thomson, Toshiba, and Xrosstech.
