According to industry research, there are roughly 22.4 million small businesses in the United States, and BellSouth Corp. wants a bigger piece of the market. The company has expanded its data service portfolio to retain and attract more customers in this sector.

BellSouth has renewed its commitment to the small business sector, and as part of that commitment, the company has rolled out new security and networking services for its small business customers. As part of its enhanced product portfolio, BellSouth offers BellSouth Managed Firewall-Small Office and BellSouth Managed Site VPN Service.

The firewall service, which starts at $250 a month, includes provisioning of certified firewall platforms, design and configuration, 24-hour monitoring and administration, ongoing platform maintenance, online access to BellSouth's security management system for trouble ticketing and reporting, 24-hour help desk and service level agreements. The service integrates with BellSouth FastAccess Business DSL and Dedicated Internet Access.

The managed site VPN service is designed for customers who have multiple locations and offers increased security and connectivity options, as well as a full line of CPE-based network management and monitoring services.

According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses produce 51 percent of private-sector output and represent 96 percent of all exporters of goods. BellSouth believes that its expanded portfolio will help this growing sector compete in today's tight economy, the company said in a statement.
