iSurfTV to show IPG for Motorola platform
In the interactive program guide (IPG) game, Gemstar may rule the roost, but newer display and presentation technologies may eventually allow for newer players to be nipping at their heels.
One new IPG vendor, iSurfTV, is developing new graphic-rich platforms to meet operator demand for new advanced interactive services, and it announced that it's hard at work integrating its patented IPG solution for the Motorola platform. At next week's NCTA show in New Orleans, iSurfTV will show off its IPG on both the Motorola DCT-1200 and DCT-2000 platforms. The demonstration is an extension of iSurfTV's participation in Motorola's Horizon Developer's Program, and it expects to complete Acadia certification of its DCT-2000 solution some time in the next few months.
iSurfTV is just beginning on its road to becoming a major IPG player in interactive TV. In a segment of the market more known for patent litigation than actual deployment and competition, iSurfTV has secured multiple patents for its "texture mapping" technology for advanced graphics presentation. So far, the company has publicly announced just one operator trial though-a test pilot program with Mexican operator Tele Cable de Morelos, S.A. de C.V., a regional operator under the UnitedGlobalCom umbrella.
