A new Panasonic-branded, OpenTV powered digital set-top box will be launched in Germany next week—an announcement aimed at giving a boost to interactive television services in that market. The new box, the TU-DSF41, was developed for the satellite-based F.U.N. (Free Universe Network), and uses both the OpenTV core middleware and the Device Mosaic HTML engine. The new set-top also enables digital photo presentation through a new JPEG viewing application. Other applications are being developed for the new box by a group of German networks, broadcasters and Internet service providers as well.
