Motorola keeps busy at ANGA confab
Motorola Broadband Communications Sector introduced a slew of products this week at the ANGA conference in Germany, including two multimedia terminal adapters, three DVB-based digital boxes, a new operational support system, and licensing program for the company's MediaCipher conditional access platform.
The new OSS is designed to automate service creation, activation, management and billing for data, telephony and video services. Dubbed the Motorola Advanced Provisioning System, the OSS can be deployed as a stand-alone system or as a component of an operator's existing network management and provisioning infrastructure, Motorola said. The provisioning system is comprised of modules for IP management and device and service provisioning.
Motorola also introduced two multimedia terminal adapters for IP telephony services: the CG5500E and the VT1000. The CG5500E, shipping next month, is an embedded MTA with an uninterruptible power supply and two RF-11 jacks. The VT1000, shipping this August, is a stand-alone device that links up to cable modems or set-tops via Ethernet or USB ports and comes equipped with one or two voice lines.
On the set-top front, Motorola revealed three new DVB-compliant digital models for Europe: the DVi1000, the DVi3000 and the DVi3500. The 1000 is a thin-client box at price points similar to analog set-tops, the 3000 is a two-way digital box that houses Motorola's MediaCipher conditional access platform and an optional smart card interface for third-party conditional access. The 3500, an advanced digital set-top, comes with an integrated EuroDOCSIS modem.
Finally, Motorola launched its DVB-based MediaCipher conditional access-licensing program, noting that it will market the technology to other broadband network operators and to "qualified" set-top manufacturers. The licensing program is made up of components ranging from the smart card, integration software, and access to a MediaCipher certification laboratory. Financial terms of the license were not disclosed.
