Aiming to tap existing bandwidth to create a more efficient platform for on-demand content transport, Motorola Broadband Communications Sector and N2 Broadband have unveiled a new satellite-based digital asset management and delivery system.
Under terms of the agreement, the system melds N2 Broadband's MediaPath digital asset management platform with Motorola's DigiCipher II uplink systems and DSR 4500X Integrated Receiver-Decoder (IRD) platform. Combined, the companies hope to accelerate the rollout of video-on-demand and subscription-VOD.
Prior to the integration, N2 Broadband customers used bandwidth from an additional transponder or sent a separate "sidecar" to carry another transport stream. The N2-Motorola combo, the companies said, simplifies that process by combining the MediaPath feed with the existing broadcast feed.
