Getting enterprise customers on net with optical Ethernet access solutions is a goal network operators may be closer to meeting with the release of a new access switch router from start-up Jedai Broadband Networks. Jedai announced that its FrontRunner 3200 intelligent edge access switch router, which also includes integrated TDM telephony capability, is available to the market after extensive lab and field-testing with several MSO partners.

The new FrontRunner 3200 provides layer 2 and 3 routing and switching, advanced bandwidth control, Quality of Service, and support for protected ring topologies and channelized T-1 voice transport. It adheres to legacy network clock timing and has been tested to ensure proper clock propagation throughout the network. With the release of FrontRunner, Jedai is first-to-market with an integrated gigabit Ethernet and TDM platform.

Jedai has partnered with Intel as an alpha customer for Intel's new Media Switch silicon, designed into the new FrontRunner box, which allows for 12.8 Gbps and 9.5 Mbps wire-speed routing and switching. Electronics maker Flextronics will be the contract manufacturer of the FrontRunner 3200, it was announced.
