Video-on-demand distributor CinemaNow Inc. announced a content licensing deal with Cflix Inc., a broadband entertainment network that specifically targets the college market.

The deal will bring CinemaNow content to Duke students via a featured "channel" that will offer students select films in CinemaNow's library of titles. The films will be offered for download over Duke's closed LAN network at high-speed access rates of 700K. Both companies will use the Duke trial to examine online behavior of college students with regard to VOD, and well as student demand for downloadable and streaming Internet-based film content.

CinemaNow's proprietary PatchBay VOD technology will handle most of the content distribution in the trial, and includes solutions for digital and territorial rights protection, user profiling, pay-per-view and subscription services, as well as detailed report generation.
