CISCO CMTS gets DOCSIS 1.1; Sigma opens overseas

Cisco Systems ' uBR7246VXR CMTS landed DOCSIS 1.1 qualification, securing a spot as the first qualified DOCSIS 1.1 Layer 3 CMTS in the industry, it says. The CMTS allows delivery of IP services over cable systems. Cisco also says its uBR10012 CMTS received DOCSIS 1.0 and Euro-DOCSIS 1.0 qualification, and its uBR925 cable access router landed DOCSIS 1.0 certification. …

Sigma Systems opened its European headquarters today, launching itself into the roughly $280 million, give or take, European cable OSS market and landing @Home Benelux BV as its first customer. The company will open offices across Europe in the coming months, it says. …

Eagle Broadband acquired DSS Security in an all-stock transaction. Eagle did not disclose the value of the purchase but says it will add about $200,000 a year in net cash flow and 3,000 new customers to its security monitoring customer base. …

Sunrise Telecom Inc. acquired Agilent Technologies' CaLan Cable TV Test business. The deal should close in the first quarter of 2002. Sunrise will merge the company with its Telecom Broadband unit. Financial terms were not disclosed. …

U.S. customers who buy a new Compaq Presario Internet PC will get a shot at EarthLink's high-speed Internet service, available immediately, EarthLink Inc. and Compaq Computer Corp. say.
