OpenTV will offer Macromedia Inc.'s Flash Player with its HTML engine, Device Mosaic 5.0, and will integrate the Flash Player with OpenTV's middleware. OpenTV says its middleware is deployed in more than 20 million set-top boxes worldwide, and Device Mosaic is in more than 7 million set-tops worldwide. …

Conexant Systems Inc. says revenue for its first fiscal quarter will increase 5 percent to 7 percent over last quarter, driven by healthy wireless performance. Revenue from its other businesses are in line with projections, it says. …

Pacific Broadband Communications says it has combined its wirespeed edge router CMTS with an MPLS-enabled Internet router from Juniper Networks. The products are commercially deployable now, PBC says. The products also are designed to provide RFC-2547bis MPLS VPNs from the edge to the core, allowing operators to segregate traffic for multiple ISPs, and to deliver and enforce multiple levels of QoS for each. …

Harmonic Inc. announced a node-based, DWDM, tunable return-path transmitter line for HFC networks. The line consists of nine temperature-hardened models, which can be hosted in Harmonic's PWRBlazer node platforms, it says. The line is designed to let operators build and manage scalable, two-way systems based on HFC cable TV networks. …

Comcast Cable and Insight Communications have signed up 7 million subscribers for G4, a video-game TV network set to launch on Comcast's system in April 2002. …

Alcatel will cut 320 jobs in Belgium as part of a restructuring plan that's part of a worldwide cost-cutting program, it says. …

Philips Research will cut 300 jobs from its labs worldwide, it says. The Royal Philips Electronics unit says it is adjusting to the lower level of short-term contracts. The cuts won't affect long-term research investments, it says. …
